50 Years of Turfgrass Field Days at WSU-Puyallup Celebrated in 2009!

July 14th,  2009 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Back in 1958, Mr. Don Hogan was President of the NTA and the turfgrass conference was in Pullman.  Dr. Roy Goss was appointed to the Turfgrass Research position during that year and the position was to be funded at Puyallup, Washington.  During that year, the first British Columbia Turfgrass Conference was also held. In 1959, the first printing of "The Turfgrass Topics" was begun with Dr. Roy Goss as editor.  Byron Reed agreed to write the Oregon Compost Heap with news about Oregon.  The first turfgrass field day was held at Puyallup on August 20th, 1959 and the second British Columbia Turfgrass Conference was also held that year.  Roy Goss' appointment was changed during that year to 50:50 research and extension specialist.

On our last Turfgrass Field Day at Puyallup in 2006, our research facility was dedicated as the R.L. Goss Research Facility and has proudly had that designation for 3 years. Our efforts in turfgrass research and extension across the state concentrate on environmental stewardship through Integrated Pest Management research and training sessions for professional turfgrass managers and homeowners.

We invite everyone from the Pacific Northwest to come join us at the R.L. Goss Research Facility on Tuesday, July 14th, 2009, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with lunch catered by Branks BBQ immediately after the research tours are finished. Please come join us in celebrating our 50th year of WSU Turfgrass Field Days in western Washington!
